Coins of Ukraine

Change coins of 1, 2 and 5 kopiyka denominations are manufactured of white metal, of 10, 25 and 50 kopyika denomimations - of bronzed colour metal, 1 grivna - of yellow copper-based metal.

Coins specification

1 kopiyka  - diameter - 16,0 mm, thickness - 1,20 mm, weight - 1,50 g, stainless steel;
2 kopiykas  - diameter - 17,3 mm, thickness - 1,20 mm, weight - 0,64 g, aluminium alloy;
5 kopiykas  - diameter - 24,0 mm, thickness - 1,50 mm, weight - 4,30 g, stainless steel;
10 kopiykas  - diameter - 16,3 mm, thickness - 1,25 mm, weight - 1,70 g, copper based alloy;
25 kopiykas  - diameter - 20,8 mm, thickness - 1,35 mm, weight - 2,90 g, copper based alloy;
50 kopiykas  - diameter - 23,0 mm, thickness - 1,55 mm, weight - 4,20 g, copper based alloy;
  1 grivna  - diameter - 26,0 mm, thickness - 1,85 mm, weight - 7,10 g, yellow coper based alloy.

On the coin obverse there is a TRIDENT depiction in the centre, i.e. the coat of arms of Ukraine, framed on both sides with an ornament of two oak leaves and two ears of wheat.  There is a UKRAINE inscription above the coat of arms, and the year of coin mintage beneath it.

On the coin reverse there is a digital designation of coin denomination, and beneath it - a corresponding inscription of "kopiyka", "kopiykas", "grivna".

The upper edge of the denomination letters is horizontal, the lower one has a downward arched form. The denomination is framed with a conventionalized wreath of leaves and berries.

Both the coin obverse and reverse are framed unbroken salient edging along the perimeter.

The rim of coins of 1 and 2 kopyika denominations is smooth, and that of 5, 10, 25 and 50 kopyika denominations is corrugated; the rim of the coin of 1 Grivna denomination; is inscribed with "ONE GRIVNA" and "1996", separated with dots from one another.
