International Astronomy Olympiad 1997

Indian view about the II International Astronomy Olympiad
Abstract.

International Astronomy Olympiad was an exhilarating experience for the Indian team which had participated in this.

We were looked after very well by all the members of Olympiad Committee in SAO - at the village of Nizhnij Arkhyz. Introduction after dinner time opened out knots amongst all the visiting teams, and we came to know each other's geographical, social and culture.

Written round conducted were of very high standard and knowledgeable which our students enjoyed a lot. Seminars, lectures were also good inspite of a language barrier which was reduced to some extent by two English speaking team mates from Armenia and Moscow.

Observation examination was very good but it was slightly tough for us as the Caucasus sky was visible to us only on the day of the examination and it was totally different from our sky.

It was a long journey from out town of Lucknow to Mineral'nyje Vody via Moscow and Vnukovo. Children enjoyed their adventure boarding Moscow Metro and buses in Moscow with heavy luggage as the weather and temperature of Moscow was not very well known.

Excursions, cultural shows and educational tours added to our delight and made Olympiad a memorable one for us.
