The main points for formation of the teams

The 6th Asian-Pacific Astronomy Olympiad (November-December 2010):

  • 4.5.1. The Olympiad participants are not supposed to study at any institutions of higher education (university or school which can be considered technical colleges). Students who finished their school examination in the year of the Olympiad cannot be members of a team even if they did not start university studies.
  • Only students did not participated at the IAO-2010 may participate in the APAO-2010 (that is a student may participate in the 15th IAO or in the 6th APAO but not in both of these Olympiads).
  • For the 6th APAO the (age) group of participants to be analogous to IAO groups, rules 4.5.2-4. to be used, i.e.:
    • 4.5.2. The junior group:
      • 4.5.2.1. Students, never participated in IAOs or APAOs before.
      • 4.5.2.2. Participants not older than 15.00 years on January 1, 2010 (i.e. born in 1995 or later).
      • 4.5.2.3. The last Form educating student cannot participate in the junior group.
    • 4.5.3. The senior group:
      • 4.5.3.1. For the students never participated in IAOs and APAOs before: Participants not older than 18.00 years on January 1, 2010 (i.e. born in 1992 or later).
      • 4.5.3.2. For the students one time participated in IAOs or APAOs: Participants not older than 17.00 years on January 1, 2010 (i.e. born in 1993 or later).
      • 4.5.3.3. For the students participated in IAOs or APAOs more than one time: Participants not older than 16.00 years on January 1, 2010 (i.e. born in 1994 or later).
        Note: It is recommended for the countries' internal rules to restrict for every participant the participation in IAOs+APAOs by two times.
      • 4.5.3.4. The last Form educating student may participate only in the senior group.
    • 4.5.4. Participants of the both groups must be not younger than 14.00 years on December 31, 2010 (i.e. born not later December 31, 1996).
  • Some reasonable exceptions may be done by the IAO Chairman for actual requests from team leaders.
  • National representation quota at APAO-2010 is (up to) 8 students and 2 team leaders (the same number is at the Asian Physics Olympiad): not more than 4 participants for the younger group, not more than 4 participants for the senior group. (For the 6th APAO this quota is for every country without additional demands, later rules to be analogous to the #5.2. of the IAO Statutes.) Observers are welcome as well.
  • In the case of absence of a National team from a country, the regions, cities and towns or individuals of this country state are responsible (by a permission) to take part in the 6th APAO.
  • National Astronomy Olympic Committees and interested organizations are welcome to ask more about the 6th APAO and in 2010 may form the teams for the 15th IAO as well as for the 6th APAO.

    Dates, deadlines and applications

    The dates of the VI Asian-Pacific Astronomy Olympiad are November 24 - December 5, 2010.

    Applications should be done in advance for the Olympic Advisory Committee. Application includes:

  • Form of the application (Excel file, please, save the table in format not later Excel-1997-2003).
  • Personal data of all proposed team leaders and participants (please, save the data in text format *.txt),
    passport scan (resolution at least 150 dpi) and colour photo 4x6 cm (resolution 300 dpi) (please, save the images in format *.jpg).
  • Rules and Regulations for a participant of the Olympiad (the same as for the IAO) that have to be translated from English or Russian into native languages of participants (if using Word, please, save the translation in format not later Word-1997-2003), attention for additions during last years (red text):
    A report of National Olympiad is not necessary for the first APAOs.
  • Deadlines:

  • The regular deadline for preliminary information from countries that they are participating: August 30, 2010 (changed).
    (After this time the point "in the case of absence information from ANRAO of the country, provinces, towns and individuals may send applications to OCC to represent their country at APAO" is coming into operation.)

  • The deadline for preliminary information from any team (countries, provinces, towns and individuals) that they are participating: September 28, 2010.

  • The deadline for receiving the applications from teams:

    • For the teams which ask for Indonesian visa - together with the personal data for visas (or before).
      E-mails for sending the applications. Please, use all three e-mails.

        Please, take into account that large time is necessary for preparing invitations for visas, so:

      • Usual way to have invitations for visa.
        The official deadline for receiving application and all personal data: and photocopies of the main pages of the passports (*.jpg format, 150 dpi resolution) and 3x4 colour photos (*.jpg format, 300 dpi resolution) for every person: October 10, 2010.
        E-mails for sending the personal data. Please, use all three e-mails.

      • Special way.
        The deadline and (additional) special requirements should be discussed with the Local Organizing Committee. Larger fees.
        E-mails for consultations.

    • For the teams which do not ask for Indonesian visa (or may get the Indonesian visa on arrival):

  • The deadline for sending additional documents and information (including #8.8. of the Personal data, information about arrival to Jakarta and departure): November 10, 2010.

    Arrival and transport to venue

    Official accommodation peiod of the VI Asian-Pacific Astronomy Olympiad is since 12:00 November 24th till 12:00 December 5th.
    The first destination (arrival point) is Soekarno-Hatta, International Airport (CKG) in Jakarta.
    Local transportation to Tolikara (Papua, East Indonesia) and back to Jakarta will be organized by Local Organizing Committee.
    After arrival to Indonesia all participants will stay one night in Aston Hotel Cengkareng Jakarta. And in the following night all the group will fly to Papua.
    The details of the arrival and departure have to be discussed with the Local Organizing Committee.
    Also please contact LOC VI APAO Jakarta to arrange the arrival before or after the official dates set above (two days before and two days after the Olympiad are possible in Jakarta).

    Special note.
    Local Organizing Committee specially informs the teams that the day of December 4 is a special reserve day for back transportation from Papua to Jakarta. The way from Tolikara a very special territory and there is no guarantee that the way back to Jakarta will be just as proposed by the general schedule, canceling the flights due to weather conditions are very often. So one day delay is possible and it is not considered as force-major.
    Please, plan your way back from Jakarta airport not earlier than 0:00 of December 5, 2010.
